WPIA BLOCK SALE
If there are enough volunteers to make it happen, WPIA's Block Sale would take place in the Fall of 2024. The prior sale was Spring 2023 and the target is to have one every 18 months! The committee contacts are shown HERE.

Ferndale residents can have up to 2 sales per year. City details are HERE.

LEAD SERVICE LINE REPLACEMENT
The city it working street-by-street to replace lead service lines. West Drayton replacements will start this Spring. Other streets may not be done for several years. Call Jeffrey Weeks at the city (248-321-0592) to discuss when your line will be replaced. If you must leave a message be sure to leave your street address and number where he can reach you. City info is HERE.

WPIA AREA ROAD REPAVING
For 2024 the only road repaving in our neighborhood will be Livernois (later this Summer). Any other road repaving must apparently wait for a new Ferndale Road Bond, which could take several years. The city info is HERE.

CHECK YOUR PROPERTY STATS
Some important data about your property are available online as noted below. As they say, what gets measured gets managed...

ELECTRICY USAGE:
Install the app on your phone and signup for "DTE Insight" to see valuable electrical usage data at your address. If you have the DTE Smart Meter (most of us should have that installed out back by now) there is no cost but you will see usage data about 36 hours delayed.

While using "DTE Insight", if you opt for the "Energy Bridge" (small box that connects to your network and costs $1.99 a month after 6 months free) you will see real time data and peak Vs. off-peak usage. I have used the "Energy Bridge" for many months and feel it helps keep tabs on our usage. Learn more HERE.

Note: "DTE Insight" is different from the regular "DTE Energy" app which is useful to show power outage maps and billing info.

WATER USAGE:
If you had the smart water meter installed (usually in the basement where the water line enters your home), you can track your daily water use and compare it to past and average usage. Alerts are available when there is a spike in usage.

Create a free account on Ferndale's "WaterSmart" website to review your usage and suggested tips to save water. The website works on desktop computers and mobile phone browsers (it is a website not an app). Details are HERE

CONSUMERS NATURAL GAS USAGE:
To see your current and past natural gas usage, setup a free account for your address at their website HERE

PROPERTY TAX HISTORY & MORE:
Recent data (about the last 15 years worth) are available on the "BS&A Online" website. You can see property tax history, building permits/inspections/issues, legal description, names, and even water bills. Click the link HERE and enter one of the values. You can enter an exact address to see that property, or just a street name to see all properties on that street. Many communities in Michigan and elsewhere use this same system.

BOOK CLUB
The West Maplehurst and Neighbors Book Club welcomes residents of Woodland Park to join us for our monthly book club discussions. Meetings are typically held during the evening of the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Books are chosen by book club participants and come from many different genres. Meetings have recently been held virtually, but will be returning to in-person events with delicious refreshments.

If you would like to join our Book Club, please email Irene Lietz irenelietz4@gmail.com and request to be added to our Book Club mailing list.

OUR ASSOCIATION'S HISTORY
Woodland Park Subdivision was platted on Oct 19, 1914 by the Michelson Land & Home Company. The original plat map with subsequent revisions is on file at the Ferndale Historical Society. They also have several advertisements for our subdivision over the years!

Our first neighborhood association was the "North End Community Club" . The earliest record of their activity found so far was May 23, 1921. Although WPIA notes & logo say we were founded in 1924 we have yet to find confirmation of that. The group seems to have been dormant from the late 1920s through early 1940s. It was revived as the "The Woodland Park Improvement Association" on June 15 1945, primarily in opposition to an airport being considered in Oak Park. It was incorporated in 1946 per past notes.
